At Union Illustration Co. we take a serious interest in our hamburgers. Re: Grub – Burger spelt backwards has some of the best in Calgary.
When we were initially asked to create a mural for Re: Grub we weren’t sure about it. There were a lot of concepts thrown around, and none of them fit the owner’s requirements that it had to be interactive and be something new in Calgary that nobody had done yet.
When we pitched the idea of a new character – a monster, for the City of Calgary, the owner totally loved it, and so we got to work figuring out exactly what kind of monster it should be. Friendly, happy, a part of Re: Grub but could live on its own.
We left space at the bottom of the mural so that visitors could write their versions of happiness. As you can see, folks aren’t shy about leaving their own messages. Even climbing high above the allotted space when they can’t find room.
This is a great art project that shows what happens when you push the boundaries of what illustration can do for your business.
